Since 2019 we have worked with 700+ young people

Our children are living in a ward where life expectancy is 10 years less than what it is for those living in the rest of Cambridge. The project has been really powerful in showing them they are a valued part of the community.

A local co-creation annual programme with primary schools in Cambridge and its surrounds.

Tales From the Edge of Town delivers high quality creative storytelling, celebrating community voice.

At NIE, we know the life-changing impact that participating in theatre can have for young people. This programme specifically targets the City’s most economically deprived schools and communities on the fringes of Cambridge.

Creative workshops invite children to write stories which are then transformed into a theatre piece with live music performed by our NIE ensemble of actor/musicians.

This project seeks to make an impact through an increase in:

– self-confidence
– imagination
– life skills
– creative skills
– literacy
– cultural capital

Our Associate Director Michael Judge is on the steering board for Local Education Partnership ‘My Cambridg’. The partnership helps NIE identify schools and areas of need and fosters collaboration with local partnerships for example, the University of Cambridge Museums.

So far, there have been 4 iterations of this project. Details of each specific project can be found on our archive page.
